NorthEast-Eagle Donates State-of-the-art Sports Lighting System to Local High School
Canton, Mass., December 5, 2008 – The Rear Football Field in Lincoln, Rhode Island, has been selected the winner of the 2008 Friday Night Lights Contest. By winning, the Rear Field will be upgraded with a brand new, state-of-the-art sports lighting system courtesy of NorthEast-Eagle Electrical Distributors and Sports Radio WEEI.
Located on the campus of Lincoln High School, the Rear Field is used by the high school football programs, as well as many youth programs, including the town’s football and cheerleading squads. Currently, the high school cannot host Friday night football games due to the lighting issue.
The second annual Friday Night Lights Community Sweepstakes gave cities and towns throughout New England the chance to win a new, installed sports lighting system for a youth football field within their town. More than fourteen towns submitted entries, along with short essays describing why their town or city deserved to win. The eligible entries were posted online and the public was invited to vote. For every 100 votes for a particular field, that football field received one entry in the grand prize drawing, which took place on Monday, December 1, 2008. The announcement that Rear Field had won was made live on the airwaves of WEEI on Monday afternoon.
"The Town of Lincoln is thrilled with this award,” said Joanne McManus, Personnel Director of the Town of Lincoln. “We are so proud that our town came together, voted, and were lucky enough to be chosen. Our sincerest “thank you” to WEEI Sports Radio and Northeast Eagle.”
"As a leading electrical distributor, with thirty-three locations spanning across New England, we are proud to have partnered with WEEI again to bring the New Friday Night Lights community sweepstakes back to all New England communities for a second year,” said Don Block, President and CEO of NorthEast-Eagle Electrical Distributors, a subsidiary of Sonepar USA. “We are happy to congratulate Lincoln, RI on winning the 2008 New Friday Night Lights contest. I know that the community of Lincoln will really enjoy the outdoor sports lighting system for many years to come.”
The system will be installed in 2009 and a special lighting ceremony will be held, details of which will be announced in the coming months.
